Happy Flag Day!

Flag Day, observed annually on June 14th, commemorates the adoption of the American flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. The celebration was first proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916 and later established as National Flag Day by an Act of Congress in 1949. The purpose of Flag Day is to honor the history, significance, and symbolism of the American flag. Various ceremonies, educational programs, parades, and patriotic activities are held across the country. Many Americans display the flag at their homes and businesses, and there is a focus on educating the public about proper flag etiquette, including the correct ways to display, handle, and dispose of the flag.

The week of June 14th is designated as National Flag Week, encouraging citizens to fly the flag and engage in patriotic events. Flag Day is a time to reflect on the ideals, history, and values represented by the American flag, symbolizing unity, freedom, and democracy, and to remember the sacrifices made by those who fought for these principles. Although not a federal holiday, Flag Day serves as an important reminder of the nation's heritage and the emblem that represents it.
